Instructors
Frank Porter
Frank Porter is a Professor of Physics at Caltech. He is an experimental physicist, working on problems in particle physics, also known as high energy physics. He has taught a variety of physics courses at Caltech in addition to the present course on Vibrations and Waves. These include undergraduate and graduate-level courses in quantum mechanics, classical mechanics and electrodynamics, particle physics, and mathematical methods of physics. He has authored a textbook, with Ilya Narsky, on Statistical Analysis Techniques in Particle Physics (Wiley-VCH).
Ashmeet Singh
Ashmeet Singh is a theoretical physicist, and at the time this course was taught in Fall 2019, he was a PhD student at Caltech working on problems in quantum gravity and foundational quantum mechanics. He obtained his PhD in Physics in 2020, and went on to be a postdoctoral fellow at Caltech. He has taught the core undergrad physics curriculum at Caltech from 2016 - 2020 as a recitation instructor spanning Classical Mechanics, Electromagnetism, Special Relativity, Vibrations and Waves, Quantum Mechanics and Statistical Mechanics & Thermodynamics. Ashmeet has been awarded the 2018 ASCIT Excellence in Teaching Award by the Associated Students of the California Institute of Technology, and is also a recipient of the 2019 R. Bruce Stewart Prize for Excellence in Teaching Physics by the Physics Department at Caltech.
